The Easiest Flower Braid

A flower braid is a simple way to add a soft, seasonal detail to your hairstyle. Made from a small braid twisted into a circle, it works as a decorative accent without requiring advanced braiding skills. Wear it for a festival, a casual outing, or whenever you want to add a little extra detail to your look.

How to Make an Easy Flower Braid

You will need two clear elastics and a few bobby pins. The braid can be kept small for a subtle accent or made fuller by including additional hair in the ponytail before braiding.

Step 1: Create a small ponytail. Take a small section of hair from each side of your head and bring the sections together at the back. Twist them into a small ponytail and secure it with a clear elastic. Keep the sections even if you want the finished detail to sit neatly in the center.

Step 2: Braid the ponytail. Braid the small ponytail and secure the end with another clear elastic. If the braid looks too thin for the flower shape you want, add some of the hair where the ponytail falls before braiding. Avoid pulling the braid so tightly that it becomes difficult to shape.

Step 3: Form the flower. Take the braid and coil it into a circle. Start with the top of the braid around the outside and work the end toward the center. This arrangement can help the outer edge look fuller. Adjust the coil gently until it forms a shape you like.

Step 4: Pin it in place. Use a few bobby pins to secure the twisted braid against your hair. Place the pins around the coil so it holds its shape, then check that the elastic and loose ends are tucked out of sight. Add another pin if the braid shifts when you move your head.

Tips for a Neat, Comfortable Style

  • Make the ponytail where you want the flower to sit; its position determines where the finished detail will appear.
  • Use small sections for a delicate flower effect, or include more hair to create a larger accent.
  • Pin the braid securely but comfortably. The style should feel stable without pulling at the scalp.
  • This same coiling technique can be repeated to create a row of flower braids or adapted with larger braids for a more elaborate updo.

The flower braid is a quick hairstyle detail that can bring a playful, spring-inspired touch to everyday outfits as well as special occasions. Because the look is made by braiding and coiling a ponytail, it is easy to adjust the size and placement to suit your hair and preferred style. Try this flower braid on its own or use the same method to create additional braid accents.
