At Work With Do Or Dye Salon

Do or Dye Salon is a collaborative workspace where a close-knit team combines creative work with thoughtful details for clients. Brandi, one of the owners, shares how the salon’s people, routines, and design help shape its day-to-day atmosphere.

Meet the Do or Dye Salon team

Brandi and her friend Grace own Do or Dye Tx, and both also work as stylists. Their team includes seven stylists, two estheticians, and a salon coordinator. When building the staff, the owners gave careful thought to how well people would work together, since the salon’s atmosphere was a priority.

The team supports one another, shares what they know, and makes time to connect outside work. For clients, a cooperative team can make a visit feel welcoming; for salon professionals, mutual support helps create a more positive working environment.

A changing rhythm throughout the day

There is no single routine that defines a day at the salon. Each team member sets an individual schedule, often planning appointments around the hours when the receptionist is available. Some stylists arrive early, while others work later, so the salon’s pace changes from day to day.

Music, dancing, and singing add to the team’s lively workday. They also bring one another coffee or lunch, share a laugh with clients, and listen when someone needs to talk. The work is about more than styling: the team aims to help clients feel good about themselves. A practical takeaway for anyone planning a salon visit is to ask about appointment availability in advance, especially when a particular stylist or time is important.

Custom details and client comfort

Much of the salon’s interior was custom-built by friends or the design team. Kelly Garcia and Susan Schultz developed the salon’s name and logo. Among the functional features, the shampoo bowls are especially popular with clients. The owners spent time searching for comfortable options, and clients often fall asleep during shampooing.

Comfort can make a service more relaxing, so clients who have trouble reclining or prefer extra support can mention that before the shampoo begins. Small adjustments may help make the experience more comfortable.

How the salon stays organized

A clear system and the salon coordinator help keep supplies and shared areas in order. The team has a designated place for items, and Krista knows where incoming shipments belong. This kind of consistent setup makes it easier for staff to find what they need and maintain an orderly workspace.

The salon also uses a playful accountability system: anyone who leaves a mess, such as hair on the floor, contributes a couple of dollars to a “naughty jar.” Once there is a decent amount in the jar, the team uses it for happy hour or a salon meeting. The lighthearted approach encourages everyone to tidy up while giving the group a reason to spend time together.
