Easy DIY Holiday Card Holder

A DIY holiday card holder is a simple way to display greeting cards instead of letting them gather on a countertop. This festive bulletin board can be made in a shape that suits your decorations and reused each holiday season. The tree design also looks cheerful before any cards arrive.

The project is intended to be easy to assemble and store with seasonal decorations when the holidays are over. A Christmas tree shape gives the display a classic look, while pom-pom pushpins can serve as colorful ornaments. You can also choose another outline, such as a wreath or star, to fit your space.

DIY Holiday Card Holder Supplies

Gather the materials before you begin. You will need:

  • Foam board
  • Bulletin board roll
  • Super glue
  • Ribbon or trim
  • Thumbtacks
  • Pom-poms
  • Hot glue gun
  • A mail holder (optional)
  • Removable adhesive hanging strips

Choose ribbon and pom-poms that coordinate with your holiday decor. Before cutting, decide where the board will hang and consider a size that gives you enough room to arrange your cards.

How to Make the Card Display

1. Cut and join the board

Cut the foam board and bulletin board roll into the same outline. The example uses a Christmas tree, but a wreath or star can create a different seasonal style. Align the pieces and use super glue along the edge to attach them. Let the adhesive set according to its packaging before moving on.

2. Finish the edges and make decorative pins

Use a hot glue gun to attach ribbon or trim around the board’s edge. This covers the exposed foam and gives the display a more finished appearance. While the glue gun is ready, attach a pom-pom to each thumbtack to make simple ornament-inspired pins. Handle hot glue carefully and allow it to cool before using the pins.

3. Add an optional mail holder

A mail holder is useful for oversized cards or for keeping extra cards together when the board is full. It is optional if the thumbtacks provide enough space for your collection. To attach one, make a few holes in the bulletin board and use wire to secure the holder in place. Check that it is firmly attached before adding cards.

When the display is ready, hang it with removable adhesive strips, following the strip manufacturer’s instructions for the wall surface and weight. This can make it easier to take down and store the board for another year. A DIY holiday card holder keeps seasonal greetings visible and gives them a dedicated place in your home. — Emma
