A Spring Wallflowers Sign brings the color of seasonal flowers indoors and makes a cheerful accent for a mantel, shelf, or wall. This project uses faux blooms and raised wooden letters to create a dimensional display. Choose flower colors that suit your room, and prepare a spacious work area before you begin.

Supplies for a Spring Wallflowers Sign
- One 2′ x 4′ wood board. Strong foam core board is a lighter option if you plan to hang the finished sign.
- Artificial flowers in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Budget-friendly discount-store flowers can help keep costs down.
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Plastic 1/2-inch plug caps, available in plumbing supplies
- Wooden letters

How to Make the Floral Sign
1. Position and raise the letters
Arrange the wooden letters on the board, then lightly trace around them with a pencil so you have placement guides. Glue two or three plug caps to the back of each letter. These spacers lift the letters away from the board, leaving room to add flowers beneath and around them. Add hot glue to the bottom of each cap, align the letters with your pencil marks, and let the adhesive dry. Keep the letters evenly spaced before the glue sets.
2. Prepare the flowers
Pull or cut the blooms from their stems. Many inexpensive artificial flowers detach easily; if yours do, trim any small plastic tips that would prevent the blooms from sitting flat. Sorting the flowers by color before attaching them can make it easier to balance the arrangement.
3. Attach the blooms
Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the back of each flower and press it onto the board. Work carefully, since hot glue can cause burns. Place the blooms close together, alternating colors and shapes as you fill the surface.
4. Fill the board and display
Continue adding flowers across the board, including the areas beneath the raised letters. Let some blooms extend over the side edges to conceal the ends of the board. Once the surface is covered and the glue has set, add frame hangers to the back for wall display, or place the sign on a mantel or shelf.

Finishing Details and Cost
The raised letters create a floating effect above the flowers. For a sign of this size, the project used at least 250 blooms. Because the discount-store flowers came with at least five blooms per stem, the flower supplies cost about $50. The total can vary depending on the flowers and materials available, so it is useful to count the blooms as you work and keep a few extras for filling small gaps.
A Spring Wallflowers Sign is a straightforward way to welcome the season with lasting color. Check that the board and hanging hardware can support the finished piece, especially if you use a heavier wood board. Project by Laura.
