Hanging basket bathroom storage can free up counter space while keeping everyday essentials visible and easy to reach. In this simple project, Mandi turns wire baskets into wall-mounted shelves for towels, toiletries and toilet paper. It is a practical option for a small bathroom, provided the baskets are securely attached and arranged to suit the items they will hold.
Before installing the baskets, decide what you plan to store and choose a wall location that is convenient without getting in the way. Wire baskets with slightly angled sides can work as shelves, too. For a neat result, check that the baskets sit level and consider how their depth and shape will affect the items inside.
Supplies for hanging basket bathroom storage
Gather the following supplies before starting. The anchors should be sized to fit the screws, and the washers help secure the wire basket against the wall.

- Wire baskets. Round baskets can also work if toilet paper is stacked sideways or towels are rolled.
- 4 heavy-duty screws
- 4 drywall anchors sized to fit the screws
- 4 washers
- Power drill
- Level
- Pencil
- Hammer
How to mount wire baskets on a bathroom wall

Step 1: Hold a basket against the wall with its bottom facing the wall. Place a level along the top edge and adjust until the basket is straight. Mark the wall through an opening on each side to indicate where to drill.
Step 2: Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the drywall anchors to drill holes at the marks. Check that the selected location is suitable for the items you intend to store.
Step 3: Tap the drywall anchors into the drilled holes with a hammer.
Step 4: Position the basket over the marks again. Place a washer between each screw head and the basket, then drive the screws into the anchors. Leave the screws a little loose while checking that the basket is level; tighten them once it is positioned correctly.

Ideas for arranging the baskets

The baskets in this project have sides that angle slightly rather than meeting the back at a right angle. They still worked as shelves. A 12×12″ frame with a matted photograph sits at the back of the upper basket, with homemade skincare products arranged in front. The top of that basket also provides space for a stack of hand towels.
The lower basket can hold a tea caddy used to organize small bathroom items, such as bobby pins, eye cream, cotton balls and cotton swabs. Toilet paper fits in the bottom basket, with a cosmetics bag beside it. Adjust the arrangement to match the size of your baskets and the supplies you use most often.
Keep the storage practical and secure

Open baskets make their contents easy to see and grab, which can help keep a small bathroom organized. Avoid overloading them, and check the screws and anchors periodically, especially if the baskets are used every day. Keep items that need to stay dry away from splashes, and place frequently used supplies at a comfortable height.
With a level installation and a clear plan for what each shelf will hold, hanging basket bathroom storage can provide useful extra space while adding a simple decorative touch. —Mandi
