TV Wall (Before + After)

A TV wall makeover can make a living room feel more complete, especially when an awkward corner makes standard furniture difficult to use. In this project, an unfinished television area was rethought with a custom-sized media table and a small gallery wall. The change shows how practical storage and carefully chosen artwork can help a challenging space feel intentional.

Why the TV wall needed a new plan

For about a year and a half, the television area remained unfinished. An initial attempt to create a TV stand from crates did not work as hoped, and finding a ready-made media table short enough for the small corner wall proved difficult. The result was a space that felt cluttered rather than connected to the rest of the room.

When a room has an unusual layout, it can be helpful to measure the available wall and furniture depth before shopping. Those dimensions make it easier to compare ready-made options and clarify whether a custom piece is the more practical solution.

TV wall makeover with a custom media table

Rather than continue trying to adapt standard furniture, Elsie shared design inspiration with Josh, who drew up a plan and built a table to fit the space. The inspiration came from modern media cabinet styles, while the final piece was designed for the specific size of the corner.

The before view shows the crate-based setup and the visual imbalance it created. A useful lesson from the project is that temporary furniture can be a good short-term fix, but it may not solve a fit problem. If a television wall is narrow, measure the full footprint—including the depth of the stand and any cables or devices—before choosing a replacement.

The custom table gave the television a more suitable base and helped the area feel finished. Its proportions were planned around the available wall rather than chosen from standard furniture sizes. For a similar project, consider the height of the screen, ventilation needs for electronics, and access to power outlets before finalizing a design.

Finishing the space with a mini gallery wall

A small collection of art adds color and personality around the television. The artwork featured in this room includes:

  • I Hate Selfies by Monramos
  • Zeb Zebra by TinyFawn
  • Girl 1 Print by Pencilbox Shop
  • Succulent Poster by Leah Duncan

When arranging art near a screen, lay out the frames on the floor first or mark their positions with paper templates. This makes it easier to check spacing and balance before putting holes in the wall. Keeping a consistent gap between frames can also help a compact gallery look orderly.

What this TV wall makeover changed

The finished television area feels fresher and more deliberate because the furniture fits the corner and the artwork gives the wall a clear visual arrangement. The project also demonstrates a practical approach to difficult rooms: identify the constraint, measure carefully, and choose furniture that works with the space instead of forcing a standard-size piece to fit.

This TV wall makeover was completed with a custom table built by Josh, based on design inspiration shared by Elsie. Together, the tailored furniture and mini gallery wall turned a long-neglected corner into a more cohesive part of the room.
